Shaw demands better United starts

United all but guaranteed a top-four berth in the league this season with victory at Villa Park but they were made to work for maximum points.

Bertrand Traore gave Villa the lead after 24 minutes and the hosts stayed in front until the ever-reliable Bruno Fernandes converted from the penalty spot just before the hour mark.

In a much stronger second half, United then went in front courtesy of Mason Greenwood's strike before Edinson Cavani sealed the win with his side's third goal in the 87th minute.

The result marked the tenth time this campaign United have come from behind to win a Premier League encounter and defender Shaw believes it is something his side must work on.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Shaw said: "Going 1-0 down in the first half we knew it was going to be a hard game and we have been in this situation so many times - second half we came back much better.

"That's a positive but we need to start the first half better than we normally do. Maybe we're not ready for the game but we have the quality and can't keep counting on second-half performances.

"We have two games in four days, we need to be ready."

United face a hectic end to the end of their Premier League campaign, before they have the chance to win some silverware in the Europa League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men face Villarreal in the final on 26th May and are 2/5 to win the trophy, with the Spanish side on offer at 2/1.
