Arsenal consider a return move for Serge Gnabry

Arsenal want to sign 26-year-old Serge Gnabry as they continue to strengthen the squad ahead of next season. Reports claim the German international is also open to a return to England.

The Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League but are bent on changing the narrative next season. The North London club narrowly missed out on a place with Europe’s elite. Arsenal lost the fight for a Champions League place late in the season, with arch-rivals Tottenham beating them to the position.

The rebuild has already started with the club separating the husk from the wheat. They are offering new contracts to players they believe can help the cause, while the chase for players that can improve the squad is already on. Following the form of Eddie Nketiah, he has received a new contract offer. Elneny has also received a contract extension.

While they keep the players at home happy, Arsenal are also looking to bring in talent that can propel the club to the next level. One of the players mentioned in connection with a move to Arsenal is their former player Serge Gnabry. The Bayern Munich forward is a target for Mikel Arteta.

Gnabry on Arsenal’s radar

Arsenal are fortifying their armoury ahead of next season. The season kicks off in August, which gives the club ample time to bring in players and have a decent preseason. The chopping and changing has already begun.

The club have their eyes on other players, with one of their former assets headlining their summer business. Arsenal are interested in Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry. The North London club have commenced plans to bring the player back to the Emirates. According to reports, Gnabry would not oppose a return to London.

The German international would be out of contract with Bayern Munich next season. Arsenal want to capitalize on the opportunity by convincing the Bavarians to sell this summer. Bayern may sell to avoid the likelihood of losing the player on a free next summer.

Can Arsenal complete the deal?

Gnabry is yet to agree to a new contract with Bayern Munich, and it gives Arsenal the belief that they can land the German international. Reports suggest that Gnabry claims to be open to a return to England. Bild reporter Christian Falk claims Gnabry Arsenal is interested in signing Gnabry. Although, the reporter says the chance of completing a deal for the 26-year-old this summer is challenging.

Falk believes the failure to qualify for the Champions League would work against Arsenal. Falk tweeted that it is financially unrealistic for Arsenal to complete a deal for Gnabry this summer. The best chance for The Gunners is next season when the German international would be a free agent, and hopefully, Arsenal qualifies for the Champions League.

Gnabry was at Arsenal for five years between 2011 and 2016 following his move from Stuttgart. He, however, joined the English club as a teenager. He got 18 appearances under his belt before making his way to Werder Bremen in 2016.

In 2017, Gnabry joined Bayern Munich. In his stay with the Bavarians, the German international has made 170 appearances for the club and scored 63 goals. He has established himself as a vital component of the German side.
