Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, commonly referred to as Paris Saint-Germain or simply PSG, is a professional football club based in Paris, France. It has become a dominant force in Ligue 1 in recent years. The Parc des Princes stadium is their home ground and can accommodate 46,480 people.

The predecessor of Paris Saint-Germain was Paris Football Club and Stade Saint-Germain. The former was founded in 1904 and the latter in 1905. The two teams represented two regions of Paris, the city center and the south respectively. These two teams began to merge in the late 1950s and finally merged into the current Paris Saint-Germain Football Club in 1970.

Team history:

Paris Saint-Germain was not successful at the beginning of its establishment. They were relegated to the second-tier league in France in 1972 and were relegated to the third-tier league twice in 1974 and 1978. However, they gradually rose to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s and began to achieve success in the French football league. In 1986, Paris Saint-Germain won their first French Cup championship and continued to achieve success in the following years. In the early 1990s, they won two league championships and two French Cup championships. These successes made Paris Saint-Germain one of the strongest teams in French football history.

In the early 2000s, Paris Saint-Germain’s performance began to decline. They performed poorly in the French football league and were eliminated from European competitions many times. However, in 2008, the team was acquired by a Qatari investment company and subsequently implemented a large-scale investment plan aimed at making the team one of the most competitive clubs in Europe. After investment, Paris Saint-Germain rose again and won their third French Cup championship in 2011 and their third league championship from 2012-2013 season onwards.

In 2014, they signed Brazilian star Thiago Silva, and won two league championships in France in 2015 and 2016 respectively. In addition, they also achieved certain results in European competitions, such as entering the top four of UEFA Champions League in 2015. In 2017, Paris Saint-Germain signed world football superstar Neymar Jr. and French national team new star Mbappé. These two players became the core of the team and pushed the team to achieve higher results on European football stage. In the 2019-2020 season, they reached the final of UEFA Champions League but lost to Bayern Munich. In addition, they have won many championships in Ligue 1 for seven consecutive years. In summer of 2021, they signed Lionel Messi with an aim to win UEFA Champions League.
