Chelsea and Inter Milan agree move over loan deal for Romelu Lukaku
Chelsea and Inter Milan have reportedly agreed to a loan deal for Romelu Lukaku worth £6.9 million, plus add-ons. Lukaku has been vocal about his desire to return to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Thomas Tuchel came to Stamford Bridge without much on his Resume. The most impressive achievement on his Resume was, perhaps, winning the Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain. It isn’t much of an achievement as every manager that came to PSG won the league. Even the ineffectual Mauricio Pochettino can boast a league title courtesy of PSG.
Tuchel became an instant hit at Chelsea. In six months, Tuchel won Chelsea their second Champions League title. Since that victory, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Blues, and there are questions about the German manager's man-management skills.
Chelsea is in disarray, with several of their players out of the club and others close to joining them. The latest to find a way out of the club is Romelu Lukaku. There is an agreement in principle between Chelsea and Inter Milan for the Belgian striker to join the Serie A side next season.
Lukaku joins Inter Milan - again
For the better part of the 2021/22 season, Lukaku was at loggerheads with Thomas Tuchel. It saw the striker relegated to the bench leading to his infamous Sky Sports interview, where he declared his desire to return to Inter Milan. A grumpy and unhappy Lukaku waddled through the season. It was clear that his relationship with Tuchel was beyond repair.
Lukaku seems to have gotten his desire as reports suggest that Chelsea has agreed in principle with Inter Milan. The Belgian would soon be on his way to Italy, where he will turn out for Inter Milan next season.
The Athletic reports that Inter Milan has agreed to a £6.9 million fee plus add-ons to bring Lukaku back to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Lukaku will join Inter Milan on loan for the 2022-23 campaign. Lukaku would undergo a medical next week before joining up with Inter Milan.
A concluded deal
Lukaku should be a happier man with his Inter return close to completion. The paperwork for the deal is not complete, but things are working smoothly to get it over the line. The deal for Lukaku is a straight deal with no obligation to buy at the end of his loan spell in the Serie A.
For all the issues that have emanated between Lukaku and Tuchel, the Blues are not interested in letting the striker leave for a figure far below what they paid for him. Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea paying £98.5 million to Inter Milan. Lukaku, who has a contract till 2026, will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of his loan spell at Inter.
Tuchel must answer the question of the plethora of unsettled stars at the club. Three defenders ran out their contracts without an interest in renewing them. Antonio Rudiger has already left Chelsea, and Christensen is about to leave. Werner, Ziyech and Pulisic are not happy at the club, while Tuchel could not get the best out of the £70 million signing of Kai Havertz.
The Belgian striker scored a measly 15 goals in 44 appearances and is happier to be on his way to Inter Milan.
