Alexander-Arnold gives damning verdict on Liverpool in the UCL semi-finals

Liverpool fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold has given a brutal review of his team's performances in the penultimate games of the UEFA Champions League.

The Reds came back from two goals down to win against a determined Villarreal at the Estadio De La Ceramica and seal a spot in the UEFA Champions League final. It was far from an easy win as they were greatly helped by a slew of errors from the shot-stopper of the Yellow Submarines, Geronimo Rulli.

However, the Premier League club will be playing in their third Champions League final in five seasons, a record that Jürgen Klopp and the team can be extremely proud of.

Alexander-Arnold, who has played in the last two and will surely feature in the third one against the winner of the Manchester City vs Real Madrid semi-final on Wednesday, has reminisced about how his team have gotten to the finals in all of those seasons.

In the 2017/18 season, Liverpool lost 4-2 to AS Roma in the second leg of their semi-final tie. However, they were lucky to have won the first leg 5-2, which saw them hang on to claim a 7-6 aggregate victory.

In the 2018/19 season, they had to overcome a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona led by the best version of Lionel Messi in the late 2010s. They won the reverse fixture of that tie 4-0, sealing a 4-3 aggregate win.

We don't make it easy for ourselves, Alexander-Arnold says

The win against Villarreal is their largest aggregate win of all three but they survived a scare as Villarreal were looking to send the game to extra time and possibly penalties.

Alexander-Arnold said of the run: "We never tend to make these Champions League semi-finals easy for ourselves," Alexander-Arnold told BT Sport. "We lost to Roma away, Barca, and now here.

"Difficult, really difficult. We came here and they played very well first-half. We regrouped at half-time and got the game by the scruff of the neck. We did what we needed to do.

"We expected it but sometimes you can't control the game how you want to. They scored early doors, which is what they wanted to do. But we got it done.

"We never played football that first half and didn't pick up any second balls. They played the game they wanted to and we allowed them to do that. Second half we came our and controlled the goal better. One bad half over two legs, we can concede that to get the job done.

"It is always nice to get the job done on Tuesday, We can watch the game tomorrow knowing we will be there. Either opponent deserves to get to the final."
