Raheem Sterling targeted by AC Milan; reveals stance on possible transfer

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has once again made the news for being the subject of transfer interest from AC Milan.

The Serie A league leaders are on the verge of their first Scudetto in a decade and are already making plans to remain in that driver's seat next season. Their transfer plans, while very publicised like many clubsz have also been hushed as no concrete news has been reported on many of their targets.

Sterling is the latest on their list and it comes as a surprise to fans. The 27-year-old has been in and out of Pep Guardiola's team and has wanted to exit the club for a while now.

However, the links to Milan are a surprise, which, according to The Mirror, is the Rossoneri's preferred choice of a marquee signing ahead of a €1 billion takeover being discussed between Bahraini firm Investcorp and Milan's American owners Elliott Management Corporation.

Sterling broke into Manchester City's top 10 all-time goalscorers list this season and has scored 14 goals in all competitions for the club this season, added to his seven total assists across board as well.

The forward has spoken of moving abroad, particularly to Spain and was rumoured to be learning Spanish from Ferran Torres, who moved to Barcelona in January from the Etihad.

Barcelona are in fact still interested in the forward, but if the news of Milan's interest rings true, the €85 million-valued forward could find the soon-to-be-wealthy Rossoneri's financial package much more enticing.

However, Sterling has maintained that he is only focused on Man City and will try to help them compete for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles this season.

Guardiola has also claimed that his relationship with the player remains great and that there are no signs of unhappiness from Sterling. The Spaniard was also reported to have asked the club to give priority to Sterling's renewal and the talks are ongoing.

Milan are also interested in signing Real Madrid's Marco Asensio and Isco Alarcon as well as Ajax Amsterdam's former West Ham striker Sebastien Haller, and Christopher Nkunku of Red Bull Leipzig.

They have also been linked with Divock Origi, who is seeking a club where he can be given more prominence with the 2022 World Cup fast approaching.

Sterling's contract expires in 2023 and he will be free to talk with other clubs in the summer and depending on the outcome of the talks between Elliott and Investcorp, Sterling could be Milan's first Galactico signing.
