Mbappe - I wanted to leave PSG

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has admitted that he "wanted to leave" the club this summer.

Two bids from Real

Real Madrid offered £137m for the forward, which was rejected before a second improved offer was also turned down.

Mbappe has scored 136 goals in 182 games in all competitions for the Parisian side since his move from Monaco.

The French international has also netted 17 times in 49 appearances for his nation.

Mbappe's contract is due to expire next summer and questions remain as to whether he will sign a new deal or move to Madrid on a free transfer.

Busy summer in Paris

PSG strengthened significantly in the summer, with Lionel Messi joining the club and the board perhaps hoped that could convince his fellow forward to sign a new deal.

However, the 22-year-old has admitted he remained keen to leave, arguing that he felt it was the best situation for all parties.

"I wanted the club to have a fee for a quality replacement," he told RMC. "My position was clear, I said that I wanted to leave. I did not appreciate the fact that they said I gave my position in the last week of August. I said at the end of July that I wanted to go.

"I said it early enough so that the club could react. I wanted everyone to come out of this stronger, that we leave hand in hand. It is a club which brought me a lot. I have always been happy, the four years that I spent here, and I still am. I said, 'if you don't want me to go I will stay'."
