Veikkausliiga is a double round-robin competition. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. Teams are ranked by points, then goal difference, goals scored and wins. If the teams are still tied, a fair play will determine the first place. The top six teams will play the play-offs, while the last six teams will play the relegation play-offs. The championship group (top 6 teams) and challenge group (last 6 teams) will play the play-offs. The first place of the championship group will be the winner of Veikkausliiga and qualify for the first qualifying round of Champions League nest season. The second place of the championship group can participate in the subsequent season’s first qualifying round of Europa League. The third to sixth places will enter the play-offs of Europa League qualifiers. The first place of challenge group can play the domestic play-offs of Europa League qualifiers, while the last place will be directly relegated. The second place from the bottom in challenge group will meet the second place of Korisliiga for a place in Veikkausliiga next season.
