Mancini targets further Azzurri glory

Roberto Mancini believes Italy's Euro 2020 success will be the beginning of a successful era for the national team.

Qatar glory next?

The Azzurri go into the second round of qualifying fixtures this month as newly crowned European champions and are 11/4 to repeat their continental success with global glory in Qatar.

Mancini's men bulldozed their way through Group A at Euro 2020 with three wins and no goals conceded before accounting for Austria, Belgium and Spain in the knockout phase.

That set up a final with England at Wembley and having fallen behind after only two minutes, they equalised in the second half and took the game to penalties.

They prevailed in the shootout to make it 34 matches unbeaten across all competitions with the victory.

Back down to business

Now, though, Mancini and his side must turn their attention back to the qualifiers for next year's World Cup, having so far beaten Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania, all by 2-0 scorelines.

Speaking about building on the Euro 2020 triumph, Mancini said: "We hope that moment can be the start of a whole era of Azzurri success but then we've believed that for three years.

"Our team has achieved something great but can get even better and that success must spur us on to do more.

"You can't win all the time but we aim to keep enjoying our football, as you give your best when doing something that you enjoy."
