AS Roma is a football club located in Rome, the capital of Italy. The home ground is at the Rome Olympic Stadium.The team was founded in 1927 and has been a mainstay of the Italian Serie A league.


Team history: 

In 1927, AS Roma was formed by the merger of two clubs, Italy Athletics Club and Rome Football Association. The club’s home ground is at the Rome Olympic Stadium. At its inception, Roma was not a strong team in Italian football. After a period of growth, they won their first Italian football league championship in 1941.


The 1960s and 1970s were the golden years for Roma. In the 1961-62 season, the team won their second Italian football league championship. They then won the Italian Cup championship twice in 1963 and 1969. In the early 1970s, the team rose again and won the Italian football league championship, Italian Cup championship and European Champions Cup championship. They defeated Liverpool in the final of the European Champions Cup, which was one of Roma’s most glorious moments in history.


The 1990s were another successful decade for Roma. They won the Italian Cup championship and European Champions Cup championship. They defeated Barcelona in the final of the European Champions Cup, which was Roma’s second European Champions Cup championship.


In the early 21st century, Roma performed well on domestic fields but not so well on European fields. However, in 2006, they reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and became one of the most watched teams that year. Since then, Roma has not performed as well on European fields as before but remains a strong team on domestic fields. They finished second in the Italian football league in the 2013-14 season and won their second Italian Cup championship again in 2018.


Since its inception, AS Roma has been an important member of Italian football and has won many Italian football league championships, Italian Cup championships and European Champions Cup championships. Especially their achievements in the 1960s and 1970s and 1990s have made them an important force in Italian football.
