Real Madrid looking to review contracts with Vinicius Junior and Modric in May

There are reports that Real Madrid are looking to reassess their contracts with Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr and veteran midfielder Luka Modric in the coming month.

Both players have been pivotal in Madrid's season so far, which could see them bag a double of the UEFA Champions League and the LaLiga come June.

Modric has been at the club since 2012 after joining from Tottenham Hotspur for £30 million. His first season was a bust, but competing with the best midfielders in the world in LaLiga while playing with some of them at Madrid shaped the now 36-year-old into the world beater he is today.

The 36-year-old's contract at the Santiago Bernabeu is on the brink of expiring and there has been talks that the Croatian national team captain could be retiring elsewhere. However, Modric has debunked the claims by affirming he is still willing to play for Madrid.

Madrid is reportedly also planning a slew of young signings in order to ease Modric and other veterans out of the squad, having already acquired Eduardo Camavinga in the summer.

It remains to be seen if Los Blancos will attempt to renew the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner's contract but it is evident from his game this season that there is still a lot of fight left in him for the big leagues.

Moving from the old to the young, Los Blancos are also looking to tie down 21-year-old Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr to a longer contract despite there being two years left on his current one.

Vinicius Jr, alongside Karim Benzema, has been the focal point of Madrid's attack this season. Both players have combined more than any other duo in LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League for goals this season.

Vinicius has also greatly improved his end product, which was the bane of his Madrid career in the past three seasons. He currently sits in joint second place on the LaLiga goalscoring charts with only Benzema ahead of him. He also has seven assists this season, more than the total of all the assists he has had in the past three seasons he has been at the club.

The Brazil international is one of the lowest-paid players in the squad and Madrid want to change that, as his firm has attracted Manchester City, who are reportedly lurking around the Spanish capital for a chance to sign the player.

Vinicius has also reassured Madridistas of his commitment to the club in previous interviews, and fans can now rest easy following his commitment to the club.

Both Vinicius Jr and Modric are expected to be in action for Carlo Ancelotti's side as they resume their La Liga campaign away to Sevilla on Sunday night. They will also be key in the Champions League when they face Manchester City in the semi-finals in later in April.
