Chelsea mock Brighton's denial of Cucurella signing

The transfer market sees an exciting turn of event as   Chelsea made a copycat statement of   Brighton's denial of   Cucurella signing. The full-back was reported to have signed a six-year deal after rounding off medicals at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

The deal involves Chelsea paying a total of £62 million, add-ons inclusive. However, in some surprising twist, Brighton would release a counter statement denying the possibility of such signing ever happening.

It was posted on Brighton's official account that, "'Contrary to inaccurate reports from numerous media outlets this evening, no agreement has been reached with any club to sell Marc Cucurella."

In typical comeback fashion, Chelsea refused to take the high road on the issue as they released the following copycat statement:

"Following reports from numerous media outlets this week, we can confirm agreement has been reached with Brighton and Hove Albion for the signing of Marc Cucurella."

The signing of Cucurella would make the Spaniard the seventh most expensive defender signing ever.

Cucurella excited over Chelsea move

While Brighton have been trying to raise doubts over the Cucurella transfer deal, the Spanish defender took to the media to clear the air.

In a recent statement released by the full-back, he confirmed his signing to Chelsea by saying, "I’m really happy. It’s a big opportunity for me to join one of the best clubs in the world and I’m going to work hard to be happy here and help the team."

The defender was initially Manchester City's prime target to help bolster their defense line. However the Premier League champions got turned off over the high asking price pegged on the player.

The signing of Cucurella would make it Chelsea's fifth signing following the signing of stars like Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina.

This signing would see Chelsea almost hitting the £200 million initially set aside for summer transfer. With Cucurella in place, the Blues seem to have found their missing piece to solidify their defense following the exit of Rudiger.

The defender has proven over time to be fluid in playing defensive positions from center-back to wing-back making him perfect for the Chelsea agenda. However, question marks remain on his price tag and whether or not Chelsea were indeed desperate to get his signing over the line.

Following Chelsea's signing, the club appears to be ready to hit it off in the league as the season kicks off. The Todd Boehly era looks set to kickoff and all eyes will be on the Blues and what they can achieve this summer after a transfer window where they were among the busiest sides.
