The reason Lewandowski wants to join Barcelona, explains his former agent

It is no secret that Robert Lewandowski has been vocal about his intention to leave Bayern Munich for Barcelona this summer. The Catalan giants might not be in the best of situations but a theory has emerged as to why the Polish forward wants a move to La Liga, says his former agent Cezary Kucharski.

Barcelona are pushing hard to sign the Bayern forward but a deal has proven to be a herculean task so far. The Spanish giants will reportedly try to make one last push for the 33-year-old but it remains to be seen where his future lies.

Bayern Munich reportedly value their star forward at £52million and have already rejected an initial offer worth up to  £34m from Barcelona. After nine illustrious years at Bayern Munich, Lewandowski wants to call it quits on his time with the Bavarians but is eager to avoid it ending on a sour note.

The reason Lewandowski wants to join Barcelona

Speaking on the reason Lewandowski is so intent on joining Barcelona, his former agent, Cezary Kucharski believes it is because the Polish forward wants to prove a point.

"He wants to prove that he is better than Benzema, it's another reason [he wants] to go to Barcelona," Kucharski told Radio Ser. "Lewandowski has no dreams. For him, playing football is a job and he is very professional. Real Madrid and Barcelona are at the same level."

Speaking about his feelings on leaving the club, Lewandowski did not hold back when answering the questions posed to him last month: "My era at Bayern is over," he said. "I don’t see any possibility to continue playing for this club. Bayern’s a serious club and I believe they won’t keep me – I don’t want to play there anymore. A transfer is the best solution. I hope they don’t stop me."

Barca’s financial struggles are well documented

While Barcelona have the blessings of Lewandowski himself,  one thing standing in their way is their well-documented financial situation. They need to sell to raise funds to buy and continue to hold their ground in search of a high fee as Manchester United circle around Frenkie de Jong.

If Barcelona cannot find a way to make it happen, Lewandowski will be required to report back to pre-season training for Bayern Munich next week.

Regardless, Kucharski remains confident that Barcelona can work an agreement to sign their man. He added: "I think it's possible," he said. "Barcelona and Lewandowski are going to fight for this signing. I think he's going to sign for Barcelona."

In 375 total appearances for Bayern Munich, Lewandowski has scored a remarkable 344 goals, while recording 72 assists.
