Qatar 2022: Bukayo Saka plays down Kylian Mbappe comparisons ahead of France-England quarter final

England forward Bukayo Saka has played down the comparisons to France star Kylian Mbappe by the media, categorically stating that "there is only one Kylian Mbappe."

The 23-year-old has not been away from the spotlight since he broke through as a bright-eyed 17-year-old at AS Monaco. Since his move to Paris Saint-Germain, however, things have gone from good to outstanding.

He is less than 30 goals from being PSG's all-time leading goalscorer after only five seasons at the club. He is currently France's second highest goalscorer at the FIFA World Cup with only two tournaments under his belt. He is less than 25 goals from becoming France's all-time leading goalscorer. And he has achieved all of this at the age of 23.

England forward Saka, who is two years younger than Mbappe, is only coming up. The Arsenal forward is currently looked at as the best young forward in the Three Lions' ranks and is expected to become as big as possible. He is now being compared to Mbappe, who himself has been compared to a lot of players including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, despite being more than 10 years younger than both players in age and football experience.

Saka, however, has shut down those comparisons in his latest chat with the media at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup.

France and England will face each other in the quarter final of the ongoing tournament and many are looking forward to a good battle between both prodigious forwards.

"Thank you for your compliment, but no...there's only one Kylian Mbappe," Saka said. "At the same time, there's only one me, I just want to be myself and help my team in the best way I can. There's a lot of young players in this tournament, I can name so many.

"Even in our team there's another young player alongside us doing unbelievably well in Jude Bellingham. I'm just happy that we're all here and doing well and the priority is to try and win the tournament, rather than be the Player of the Tournament or the Young Player of the Tournament."

Saka went on to comment on the upcoming clash between Les Bleus and his team. "The rivalry in this World Cup is big - two nations that have performed exceptionally well," Saka said on the quarter-final.

"We've followed them and we see the quality they have. it's going to be an exciting game. Obviously we know the quality they have, but we know our own quality also. We just have to play our best game.'
