Borussia Dortmund set to sign Sebastien Haller from Ajax
Haller is due for a medical at Borussia Dortmund ahead of a £30 million transfer to the German side. The Ivorian striker scored 21 times in the Eredivisie to help Ajax retain their crown in the 2021/22 campaign.
As the 2022-23 football season approaches, clubs have continued their efforts at improving their squads. The movements have started gathering pace with more players switching clubs.
While some clubs are busy dilly-dallying and twiddling their toes, the serious ones refuse to slack off, especially clubs with plenty of ground to cover.
A few high-profile moves have occurred, leading to a chain reaction of player movements. Some clubs that have moved to quickly sort out their business this summer are Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and Inter Milan.
Real Madrid have concluded the signing of Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni, while Liverpool bought Darwin Nunez.
Perhaps, the signing of Erling Haaland by Manchester City got the ball rolling in Germany as Borussia Dortmund have moved to replace their top scorer. The German side has swooped for Ivorian international Sebastien Haller.
Dortmund agree deal for Haller
While Bayern Munich are struggling to fend off interest in Robert Lewandowski and keep him at the club for at least another season, Borussia Dortmund have the task of replacing their mercurial striker Erling Haaland. The German giants finished second in the just concluded Bundesliga season and are on the verge of signing Ajax striker Sebastien Haller.
According to reports, the Ivorian international will undergo a medical before completing an initial £30 million transfer to Borussia Dortmund. 90min reports that the deal is far gone and subject to a successful medical.
Despite signing Karim Adeyemi from Red Bull Salzburg, BVB were not satisfied and had been looking for another striker following the sale of Erling Haaland to Manchester City. The Ivorian striker, who was a revelation in the Champions League last season, is close to finalizing the details that would see him wear the yellow and black of the German outfit.
Ajax struggle to keep their top stars
With the exit of Erik Ten Hag to Manchester United, Ajax were under severe pressure to fend off the interest in several of their players. Several clubs have tried to price some of their players, with Ten Hag leading the queue of interested parties.
Ajax is a selling club and may not hold out for long. Last week, 90min reported that Ajax were hopeful of making around £35 million for Haller. The add-ons for the deal that takes Haller to Germany could bring the final fee to that figure.
As Haller heads to Dortmund, other vital Ajax players could also leave. Some of the players that are a target for other clubs include Antony, Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez. Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch have already signed for Bayern Munich to bring the number of departed players to three.
Haller would hope to repeat his sensational scoring form at Ajax last season. He scored 11 goals in eight matches in the Champions League. Haller also scored 21 league goals to help Ajax retain their Eredivisie crown.
Haller (28) returns to German football after spending two seasons at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 33 goals in 77 matches.
