Juan Roman Riquelme has made a bold declaration about Argentina's World Cup chances ahead of the FIFA 2022 World Cup draws on April 1.

The draws for the World Cup will hold in Qatar on April 1 after the current international break which will wrap on on March 29. Argentina have already qualified for the tournament and will be finding out their group stage opponents on that date.

Lionel Messi was, as usual, a key influence in their qualification for the global showpiece and his predecessor as captain of the Albiceleste, Juan Roman Riquelme, has stated that he will be key also in their hunt for a third global title.

Argentina is currently riding off the momentum of their Copa America win which also saw Messi dominate to propel Argentina to the title.

Riquelme says that as long as Argentina have Messi, they have a chance.

“As long as Messi is there, we are candidates,” Riquelme said in comments carried by TyC and journalist Roy Nemer. “We have the best player of all. You always have to have faith in Messi.”

Messi, 34, will be competing in what is most likely his last World Cup and will be hoping to achieve the grand slam of football trophies given how close he came in 2014.

The former Barcelona star is the most capped Argentine of all time with 158 appearances and also the highest goal scorer for Argentina with 80 goals.

'FINALISSIMA' officially confirmed for June 1

The intercontinental Super Cup between the winners of the Euro 2020 and Copa America 2020 tournaments will face each other on June 1.

UEFA and CONMEBOL signed an agreement to help each other develop football in their various confederations. The agreement will see an exchange of referees, invited teams to each other's tournaments, and many more initiatives.

In light of that, a super cup match between Italy, Euro 2020 winners, and Argentina, Copa America 2020 winners, will be played on June 1 at Wembley stadium.

Italy beat England at Wembley Stadium on penalties last summer to win the Euros while Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 thanks to an Angel Di Maria goal to win the Copa America for the first time in 28 years.

This will be the third time both confederations are playing a super cup fixture, the first being in 1985 and 1993, when it was called the Artemio Franchi trophy.

This year, it is dubbed the FINALISSIMA and will be the first major step towards the renewed understanding between both confederations.
