Kane became the first Englishman to win the Golden Boot at a World Cup since Gary Lineker in 1986 with his six goals in Russia three years ago.

And despite not scoring in the group stage, Kane still managed to bag four at Euro 2020, finishing one behind tournament top scorers Patrik Schick and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Tottenham forward may have found goals hard to come by in the Premier League, but his Three Lions return of 16 in a calendar year makes impressive reading and it’s surely just a matter of time before he bags six more to pass Wayne Rooney in the England all-time scoring charts.

Reports suggested Kane was desperate to start against San Marino on the back of his perfect hat-trick against Albania, giving him the opportunity to fill his boots, an opportunity he took; his four goals on Monday night saw him draw level with Lineker as England’s third-highest goalscorer, one behind former record holder Sir Bobby Charlton.

Also impressing on Tuesday was Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe. Despite a strong season so far for the Gunners, the 21-year-old was initially omitted from Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, before being called up following Marcus Rashford’s withdrawal. The Arsenal man become the first player to score and assist on debut for England since Rickie Lambert eight years ago.
