About AFC U23 Asian Cup

Since the 2012 London Olympics, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has created the Asian U23 Championship (U23 Asian Cup), which combines the Olympic men’s Soccer Asian Zone qualifiers with the event, namely, the U23 Asian Championship qualifiers for the Olympic Games with multiple events. For example, the second U23 Asian Cup, held in Doha in January 2016, will be the Asian qualifier for the Rio Olympics, and the fourth Tournament in 2020 (for teams of the 1997 age group) will be the Asian qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics. The 4th U23 Asian Cup and Tokyo 2020 Asian Zone qualifiers are scheduled to start in late March 2019, four months earlier than usual. On August 31, 2018, according to the official website of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the AFC recommended Thailand to host the fourth (2020) U-23 Asian Cup, which is also tasked with the task of qualifying for the Asian zone for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.Japan, the host of the Tokyo Games, automatically qualified for the finals. In addition to Japan, there are three places in The Asian region, namely the final champion, Asian runner-up and third runner-up of the U-23 Asian Cup. Compared with three places in 2016, there will be four teams from the Asian region participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
