Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, out of action for over two months with a shoulder problem, could be given the green light to return to full training next week.

Rashford, who has not played since England's Euro 2020 final defeat against Italy at Wembley in July, is eager to return to a United side.Bruno Fernandes missed a late penalty for United, who would have finished the weekend top of the table with a win.

Rashford underwent surgery last month to rectify a long-standing shoulder issue which the 23-year-old said had troubled him towards the back end of last season.

He made five appearances for England at the European Championship finals in the summer, coming off the bench each time including in the final where he went on to miss a penalty in the shootout loss to the Italians.

Rashford surgery delayed

Rashford had hoped to have surgery straight after that defeat, but was forced to wait until August 6th and the initial prognosis was that he would not return to first-team contention until the middle of October.

He has already missed eight matches in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, who host Villarreal in the Champions League this week in a repeat of last season's Europa League final, before taking on Everton in the league on Saturday.

"Happy Monday," the England ace tweeted. "I see the doctor on Friday for a consultation. All being well, I will get the green to join in with contact training again."
