Manchester United Football Club is a football club located in Manchester, Greater Manchester, England. The club was founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club and renamed Manchester United in 1902. It is a traditional powerhouse of the English Premier League. The team plays its home games at Old Trafford, a stadium with a capacity of 76,000, making it the largest football stadium in England. Manchester United became a founding member of the G-14 in 2000.

Club history:

In its history, Manchester United was the first English team to win the European Cup, winning it in 1968. After English football was banned from UEFA competitions for five years, Manchester United won the first European trophy for English football in the 1990s, the European Cup Winners' Cup. With the establishment of the English Premier League, Manchester United entered another period of glory, winning 11 league titles, 3 runners-up, and 3 third-place finishes in 17 seasons. In 1999, the team achieved the historic treble of winning the English Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League, making it the only English football club to have accomplished this feat. In 2009, Manchester United won its 11th English Premier League title, equaling Liverpool's record of 18 domestic top-flight titles and becoming the first team in English football history to win three consecutive league titles twice.

Manchester United was founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club and was renamed Manchester United after receiving financial support from John Henry Davies in 1902. The team won its first English top-flight title in 1908 and its first FA Cup the following year, beginning its ascent in English football. However, the team experienced a period of decline between the two World Wars in the 1910s and 1940s, and went over 30 years without winning any major honors.
